The Top 10 Tallinn Nightclubs
Tallinn’s nightlife maybe losing out to Riga and Vilnius for the party capital of the Baltic, but Tallinn Nightclubs are still the hub of the Tallinn nightlife scene. You may get the impression that Estonians are endless party animals but that would be unfair. The plethora of clubs offering different music and venue styles suit all the locals, whether expats, students or the wave of summer tourists.
Club Hollywood
The building was once an old Russian cinema which today is a nightclub with 2 floors. However it is located in the infamous area also referred to as the Bermuda Triangle between Suur-Karja and Väike-Karja streets, where most of the heavy drinking goes on every weekend, or most days in summer.
If you are in Tallinn on a Wednesday this is the definitive choice, since Club Hollywood hosts the popular Wednesday “Ladies Night” so entry is free for the fairer sex. If you don’t mind a tourist trap and a young crowd then this is the club for you.

Klubi Teater
Located inside a 1930’s theatre this nightclub is proving itself a mecca for Estonians and Russians as the nightclub in Tallinn and it’s easy to see why. It offers various entertainment programmes including themed nights, various artists and ‘showgirls’. Although the drinks can seem somewhat pricey the upwardly mobile and mature crowd (entrance is for 21+) offers a different interaction to the more ‘younger’ orientated venues in the city.
If you prefer elegance, commercial radio and house music then you should visit this club.

Club Prive
Along with Teater and Vabank (will discuss next), the smaller Privé is considered one of Tallinn’s three trendiest club destinations. Heading here is a bit of a gamble though. If you hit it on the right night, it can be a very cool scene where you’ll hear the region’s or world’s hottest DJs, (especially from the UK) but on the wrong night it’s just another club full of smoke and tourists. Friday nights are generally House music and Saturday’s R&B. Dress code tends to be on the smarter side.

Vabank
This is not your average nightclub of drunk 20 somethings (entrance is 21+) but the former bank building is one of the poshest places in town, popular for the 25–40 age group. DJs play R&B or disco in several rooms either side of the main dance floor and there is a VIP section located in the former vault downstairs. The main room plays more mainstream popular dance music.
Being a more up market place make sure you fit in: the dress code is smart casual.

Studio
One of my favourites, Studio has good beats, with mainstream dance music downstairs and alternative electro upstairs. With its incredible sound system this club in the heart of the old town really is a place to dance rather than mingle. As it’s two dance floors provide something for everyone, there are always queues outside the venue to get in so get there early.

Venus
Open 6 days a week, Venus is another of the Tallinn stalwarts that never seems to fade. Sort of a mix between the more “serious” clubs in town and Hollywood, Venus is located in the an old firehouse and never fails to provide a party to clubbers. Probably because entry within the first hour has a 50% drinks discount! It’s also one of the few clubs in town where you can often find people dancing before midnight.

Club Münt
A small club located in a narrow street in the heart of the old town. Evenings are accompanied by commercial house and electronic music. The club offers drinks and cocktails at relatively low cost and is great on Thursdays when other places that evening might be somewhat ‘less happening.’ Casual dress code is a must: those who wish to dress up should head to more of the “elite” clubs mentioned above. That’s not to say that this club is not good, it provides a welcome alternative for those looking for something different.

Factory
Situated a little out of central Tallinn, it is the “go to” place for those who love hardcore techno music. Numbers turning up depends on events but the club feels like it aims for the younger audience and students.

Club Butterfly
Also doubling as a late night restaurant is the relatively new Club Butterfly on the edge of the old town. It’s not so central but don’t let that put you off giving this new club a try. Drink prices can seem a little on the pricey side but the upmarket decor and private rooms are pleasing enough. Dress code is smart to well dressed — not a place to wear those boots you shovel the snow in!
Entertainment events vary from live music to DJs playing commercial and dance house, so check their Facebook for the latest.

Cafe Amigo
Café Amigo is a room located in the basement of the Sokos Hotel Viru. A more mature clientele than that of other clubs of Tallinn, including many Finns who make up the crowd. Here the great attraction are the concerts with live music with rock and blues bands and Estonian singers. Although it is worth noting that once the bands finish performing the Estonian sections of the audience tend to depart, leaving the Finnish to carry on the party! DJs play dance pop ranging from the past 20 or so years.
